You probably have one of these features in the vehicle you drive : Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Light Control, Automatic Braking, Automatic Park Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Collision Avoidance, Driver Drowsiness Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Detection and Traffic Sign Recognition.
This technology is built into the windshield and when a Glass Claim happens – the new windshield needs to be recalibrated. In most cases (not all) the calibration happens automatically once the windshield is installed (the installer is very careful not to disconnect the wiring to the windshield while installing the new one). In some cases (especially with Audi’s I am told) – the dealership must re-calibrate the vehicle to the new windshield.
Who pays for this? The glass company should do their best to be certain all windshield replacements are covered…however, you should know that some may fall through the cracks and not be covered. Be an educated consumer and ask the glass dealer if ADAS is covered – if not perhaps call around to see if another glass company will cover it.
